Meet Tyler Templeton

In June of 2018 Tyler’s life changed forever. He experienced an ATV accident which left him hospitalized for 5 weeks. During that time, he underwent numerous surgeries and suffered facial damage. This accident made him realize how quickly life can change, just like the lives of individuals and families who are victims of the skyrocketing drug epidemic in this county. It has become Tyler’s mission to assist as many people as possible with their addiction issues. He has aided his clients and others in entering recovery programs and attempting to change their lives.

Tyler and his family are children of Sumner County. His Mother’s life is his greatest inspiration. She is a first generation college educated attorney who has been active in local government for more than 35 years.

Tyler was a member of the first graduating class of Merrol Hyde Magnet school in Sumner County. He holds a Bachelors degree in political science from MTSU,  graduated from Nashville School of Law. Tyler has used his practice to help those in their worst times.  He has assisted numerous people in the county with criminal defense, juvenile criminal defense, family law, divorce, and social security disability.

In his free time, he raises and shows western pleasure quarter horses, and spends time on the lake with friends and family.

He currently practices law with his mother, Cynthia,  at The Templeton Law Firm in downtown Gallatin.

“I am running for General Sessions Judge to use my knowledge of the law to make Sumner County a more safe, just, and prosperous place for our citizens.”

The Committee to Elect Tyler Templeton General Sessions Judge

176 W Franklin St. Gallatin, TN 37066

Why Tyler?

Tyler Templeton is one of the most experienced candidates currently running for Sumner County General Sessions Judge. He has dedicated hundreds of hours to serve as the Special Judge for General Sessions Court, and is always one of the first to be requested when sitting justices are absent.

He’s already done the work and has shown he can do so effectively.

He has been repeatedly honored as a Top 10 Under 40 criminal attorney by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys three years in a row in 2019, 2020, and 2021 and comes from a legal-focused family (his mother, Cynthia Templeton, is a successful local attorney) and successful family law firm.

Tyler Templeton is ready to get to work on day one!

A Judge should enter the courtroom with an open mind, free of bias and any preconceived notions.

This requires a candidate with strong fortitude and character – one who understands the tough decisions he will be making. Tyler Templeton possesses the necessary temperament to thoughtfully listen to all sides equally and fairly, and communicate and apply the law effectively.

Tyler Templeton’s extensive experience working in the Juvenile Court system has had a profound impact on his life, so much that he and his husband became proud foster parents to a teenager-in-need who he represented in the juvenile court system after he was moved by the struggle and the story he witnessed.

They helped set this young man up on the right track by providing him the stability and care he needed to finish school and start his life as an adult. In his legal work, he continues to support the foster care system because he understands that success starts with a loving home, and that youth in the criminal justice system are one of the most overlooked and misunderstood demographics.

Tyler understands Sumner County’s youth-in-need more than anyone else. As Special Judge for General Sessions Court, Tyler always promotes and advocates for programs that educate and guide youth on a productive path before they become just another statistic.

It wouldn’t be possible to talk about the General Sessions Court without mentioning the drug epidemic that has ravaged our state and our communities here in Sumner County.

Serving as Treasurer of the Mental Health Court, Tyler has worked tirelessly with victims and families of the epidemic, doing what he can to make a difference for Sumner County.

Through his many years of legal experience, Tyler has seen firsthand the physical, mental, and emotional toll that the epidemic has had on victims, their families, and life in our county.

As Special Judge for General Sessions, he has always strongly advocated for Recovery Court and has guided citizens to  make the recovery they need to get their lives back on track and become healthy and engaged members in their communities.

Tyler Templeton, like our Founding Fathers who wrote our Constitution, believes the judiciary should remain free from outside political influence. The law is blind and neutral, and a Judge should be as well. Those are the words that Tyler Templeton lives by every day when serving as Special Judge of General Sessions Court, and will continue to do so as General Sessions Judge of Sumner County.

“My years of practicing the law, along with the guidance I received from my loving mother (and accomplished lawyer) Cynthia, gave me the temperament, communication, and character to serve as General Sessions Judge.”
